On Oct. 19, 2019, Sun Yiwen competed with her rival Ana Maria Popescu of Romania in the women's epee individual final in the 2019 Military World Games held in Wuhan. The two had fought to a 10:10 standoff when Sun scored the winning point and claimed the gold medal. It was the third gold for China at the 2019 Military World Games.

2019年10月19日，在武汉军运会女子重剑决赛中，孙一文的对手是罗马尼亚选手波佩斯库，两人战至10:10，孙一文最后通过“决一剑”为中国队夺得军运会的第三块金牌。

An essentially identical set of circumstances took place on July 24 this year. In the women's epee individual final in the Tokyo Olympics, Sun encountered Popescu again. The two remained close in the bouts and were tied at 10:10 at one point. However, as had happened in Wuhan two years ago, Sun scored the winning point in the deciding period to claim the gold medal. It was also the third gold medal for China in the Tokyo Olympics.

For Wuhan citizens, Sun's incredible experience of winning the Olympic gold medal brought to mind her gold medal win in the Military World Games held in Wuhan. Zhang Xi, a Wuhan football commentator, exclaimed in his WeChat Moments, "Similar scenes. It is really not easy for her!"
